When Everything Goes Wrong: A Real Mom Rant (With a Side of Laughs)

Published on Mar 31, 2025

Y’all. Today was one of those days.

You know the kind—where the coffee spills, the Wi-Fi dies mid-Zoom, the kids are fighting over crayons like they’re gold bars, and the dog throws up on your only clean laundry. By 10 a.m., I was ready to wave the white flag and crawl back into bed with a cookie.

We all have them. The days where motherhood, work, and life decide to test you just to see how close to the edge you really are.

So instead of screaming into the void (again), I figured I’d share it here. Because sometimes the only way to survive the madness is to laugh about it. Later. Much later.

Let’s Set the Scene

The day started off hopeful. I got up early. I even made a real breakfast—eggs, bacon, the whole shebang. I thought, “Look at me, getting it together.”

That lasted ten minutes.

The kids came down fighting over who got to pick the breakfast playlist. I burned the toast. The eggs turned rubbery. And the bacon? Charcoal. Full-on smoke alarm situation.

The Work-from-Home Circus

I had a video meeting scheduled for 10 a.m. My plan was airtight: give the kids a snack, set them up with an activity, and jump on the call like the professional mom-boss I pretend to be.

But noooo.

The snack turned into a spill. The activity turned into an argument. And mid-way through my meeting, my youngest popped into frame wearing nothing but a cowboy hat and a proud grin. There’s nothing quite like explaining your quarterly goals while your child hollers “YEE-HAW!” in the background.

The Homeschool Meltdown

After lunch (if you can call “panic mac and cheese” lunch), we tried to do schoolwork. But math was a battlefield. Every problem was met with sighs, dramatic flops onto the floor, and accusations that I was “making it up” when I said 7x8 equals 56.

By the end, I was Googling “Can I send myself to time-out?”

Why I'm Sharing This

Because it’s okay to have days like this. You’re not alone. You’re not failing. You’re just a mom doing her best in a world that doesn’t come with a pause button.

We all hit a point where the dishwasher is broken, the kids are wild, and the laundry has given up hope. But we keep going. We pour another cup of coffee, we regroup, and we try again tomorrow.

And sometimes, we write about it so other moms out there can say, “Girl, same.”

The Tiny Win

At the end of the day, despite all the chaos, we snuggled on the couch and watched a movie. No one fought. No one spilled anything. And for a brief moment, it was peaceful. That tiny win? It saved the whole day.

Final Thoughts

Some days are disasters. But even in the mess, there’s something to be proud of—like the fact that you made it through. Or that your kid learned something, even if it was just how to microwave popcorn.

So here’s your reminder: you’re doing a great job—even if today felt like a comedy of errors.

Let’s keep it real, one meltdown at a time.
